It's June and today is the best time to update the curb appeal of your home with new outdoor landscape and home lighting. Check your fixtures for damage and change out lightbulbs. Decorative and long-lasting LED bulbs are now available, so you can scratch this chore from your list for years! Landscape spots and path lighting are also now available in LED versions. Stop in at Bedford Lighting to discuss how to update or change your existing fixtures to save you time and shave money off your electricity bill. We carry all the new styles to enhance your outdoor decor, as well as the classic American-made lantern versions that are so popular in our suburban setting. We even offer a 24 hour approval to take home samples to ensure proper size and finish.
On February 10th, Bedford Lighting had its fifteen (well, maybe two) minutes of fame during its television debut on the the HGTV series Property Brothers. The contractor Jonathan Scott sent his clients, Craig and Laurel, shopping for lighting while he and his twin brother Drew concentrated on renovating the couple's new real estate purchase into their dream home. Craig and Laurel were very dedicated to finding exactly what they wanted, but selecting a fixture to match their dining room was matched by our own dedication to sending our customers home happy.
Laurel first hedged towards crystal while Craig advocated for wrought iron — two styles that are a world apart. They finally agreed on a chandelier from the "Lumiere" collection by Feiss. A boxy, crosshatched design fitted with seedy glass is the perfect showcase for four vintage lightbulbs that have become so popular in today's aesthetic. The wood, rope-covered stems and black chain are rustic enough for Craig, while the minimalist shape and textured glass lets it play with Laurel's clean and timeless aesthetic.
What you might miss in the episode is Craig and Laurel's pick for their new great room: a "Dakota" chandelier from Justice Design. The candle-like resin shades provide warmth while matching the old world appeal of the room's hewn stone fireplace. It's another fixture that strikes a balance between personality and simplicity, and was a fantastic choice for a new family with decades of happiness ahead of them.
Like Drew and Jonathan, my own Drew and I often meet with people who have a dream, who have imaginations, and who can recognize what they want — and what they don't. We hope you choose Bedford Lighting to help you discover what's possible with your own space, and what you can do to transform it into the home you've been dreaming of.
I managed to get in and out of Dallas to avoid the big storm and boy was the trip worth it! We are going through such a transformation in lighting right now with the evolution of LED lighting being adapted to all types of lighting fixtures that I wanted to see in person all the product first hand to guide my clients to the best quality for their money.
If you can compromise some general illumination, LED in outdoor fixtures can be very striking and create a very dramatic look at night in a more transitional and modern fixture. For those that still like the look of a traditional brass lantern, using the new vintage candle LED bulbs can save the most energy while providing security in outdoor lighting. Stop in and try a sample to see for yourself!
Ceiling fixtures can be very low profile with the advent of LED lighting — but not all fixtures are created equal so come see the differences.
Industrial was still strong for new introductions this market, with an emphasis on streamlined designs and style. "Marble" glass (popular in the '90s) has been replaced by clear "seedy" or "bubble" glass to give a more transitional look to many fixtures. Fabric drum shades have expanded to a more contemporary look by incorporating metal shades over fabric.
Hubbardton Forge probably had the most exciting reveal having introduced it's "larger" fixture options in LED linear chandeliers.
This week unveils the most current lighting offerings from the major lighting manufacturers at the Dallas Market Center in Texas. Lighting manufacturers showcase their new designs and introductions along with current line of product in a shopping mall-type setting. I will be shopping for some new cutting edge designs while keeping a keen eye to getting the best quality and design for the money.
This week is also the Arts Awards (essentially the Oscars of the lighting industry) which profiles the best in design and awarding a manufacturer or two who do it best. There are always the Leos and JLaws that are at the forefront, wowing us with some very different style.
Stop in and find out what's new and current for your design or remodeling project and I'll help you navigate through it all!
